ICWG III/VII: Pattern Analysis in Remote Sensing

Our Mission:

ISPRS Inter Commission Working Group III/VII aims at closing the gap between remote sensing and computer vision in pattern recognition and image analysis. We want to foster the introduction and adaption of new methodologies and algorithms of pattern analysis into the field of remote sensing. In extension to the addressed fields of working groups “Image Sequence Analysis” (WG III/3) and “3D Scene Analysis” (WG III/4) we aim to consider as well log-term processes, differential scales, and active and hyper spectral sensors. Whereas radar remote sensing is already addressed in commission VII, we aim to enrich basic data from InSAR like surface and motion with semantics. In contrast to data fusion strategies addressed in working groups of commission VII in our working group the fusion on the level of objects and patterns will be focused.

To this purpose, the WG organizes workshops to exchange the latest developments in pattern analysis in remote sensing. Furthermore the WG provides links to publicly available datasets and international comparative tests. Finally, the ICWG will continue to work closely with Working Groups of Commission III (WG III/3, WG III/4) and Working Groups of Commission VII.

Terms of Reference:

  • Automatic identification and learning of 2D and 3D patterns in uni-modal and multi-modal remote sensing data, e.g. multi-scale aerial and satellite data; multi- and hyperspectral data; SAR-, radargrammetric and SAR-tomography data
  • Automatic identification and learning of temporal patterns in remote sensing data, e.g. image-based flow estimation and learning from InSAR data (traffic, glaciers, currents, etc.); analysis-by-synthesis approaches for motion and deformation modeling with passive and active sensors
  • Integration of radiometry and radiometric models into pattern recognition; radiometrically enhanced object models for range-intensity images and sequences; integration of SAR-simulation into SAR-image and analysis
