General Plan of Activities
Within the group
WG IV/2 plans to organize relevant activities to promote and stimulate research and collaboration on ontologies, semantics, and knowledge representation for geospatial information. More specifically, the plan of activities of WG IV/2 includes the following:
- Organization of Workshops on ontologies, semantics, and knowledge representation for geospatial information in 2017 and 2019 (Geospatial Weeks).
- Work on a special issue of the ISPRS journal on ontologies, semantics, and knowledge representation for geospatial information.
- Development of an active community of members through networking tools.
- Active participation in relevant conferences and workshops (e.g. COSIT 2017, GIScience 2018, Agile).
Within Technical Commission IV
WG IV/2 officers plan to actively participate in the Commission IV: Spatial Information Science symposium, publications, and other relevant activities.
With other Technical Commissions
WG IV/2 will investigate the possibility for collaboration with other technical commissions such as Commission I: Sensor Systems (e.g., on the topic of interoperability of sensor systems), Commission III: Remote Sensing (e.g., on the topic of semantic approaches for object discovery) and Commission V: Education and Outreach (on the topic of the promotion of web-based education on semantics – ontologies).
WG IV/2 officers will actively participate in the XXIVth ISPRS Congress 2020 in Nice, France. Furthermore, the WG has related research topics with other newly formed TC IV WGs and will therefore investigate the possibility for collaboration and organization of joint activities (organization of a joint workshop, joint research and publications) with the following WGs: WG IV/1: Multi-dimensional modelling (7D): above, below, indoor/outdoor, WG IV/4: Crowdsourcing, mobility, cloud based mapping, social collaboration, participatory systems, WG IV/6: Internet of things, sensor web, SDI, Spatial decision support systems, and WG IV/7: DBMS (Data management and indexing), spatial data interoperability and standards, and ICWG IV/II: Applications of GIS (Health, CityModels, etc.).
With organisations outside of ISPRS
WG IV/2 will investigate the possibility for cooperation with other organizations with relevant research topics, such as the Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE), the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).
