General Plan of Activities

Networking will be an important and regular activity of the WG. The WG will organize workshops and will organize a special issue of the ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information. A worldwide mapathon for kids and/or teenagers will be organized, hopefully in 2017, together with other international organizations (see below).

Within the group

Regular Skype meetings within the WG are planned, including the officers, members and relevant experts. The WG will also organize lectures and webinars.

Within Technical Commission IV

The WG will contribute to the general activities of Technical Commission IV. Links will be established with WG IV/5 on the topic of indoor/outdoor mobility and big data, and with WG IV/3 on the topic of crowdsourced data and VGI. Contributions will be made to ISPRS Biennial reports. Finally, the WG officers and members will attend and participate in the TC IV symposia in 2018.

With other Technical Commissions

The WG will establish a link with Technical Commission V, which is focused on education and outreach.

Within ISPRS

The WG will participate in the Geospatial Week 2017 in Wuhan by organising the 5th International Workshop on Web Mapping, Geoprocessing and Services (WebMGS). The WG will participate in the ISPRS XX IV Congress in 2020 in Nice.

With organisations outside of ISPRS

The WG will coordinate its activities together with those of similar or related projects such as current and future projects (e.g. EU COST Actions) focusing on the same topics. Collaboration will be also established with a number of organizations and associations such as the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), the Missing Maps project, the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo), the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), the GeoForAll initiative, the International Cartographic Association (ICA), among the others. Special sessions of the ISPRS WG will be organized within conferences of the previously mentioned associations.
