WG I/1  Terms of Reference

  • System design of satellite payloads, image and sensor modelling and simulation, and space-ground integrated planning for earth observation missions
  • Performance promotion of sensor systems and satellite constellations through the  development phase to mission operation phase
  • Radio signal characteristics analysis on optical, active/passive microwave and LIDAR satellite data
  • Usability, availability and lifetime analysis of satellite geometric and radiometric properties
  • Deployment of small satellite systems for earth observation and integration use of governmental with non-governmental satellites in algorithms and data
  • Collaboration with space agencies (including NASA, JAXA, ESA, DLR, CNSA), and  academic societies (such as GEO, CEOS, AGU, EGU, JpGU, IEEE-GRSS) to promote developments and applications of satellite constellations

  • Design, development and evaluation of UAV, industrial sensor and terrestrial mobile sensor systems combined with vision metrology, large-scale 3D metrology, close-range photogrammetry
  • Data processing for (near-) real-time indoor and outdoor mapping and industrial photogrammetry
  • Mobile perception from mobile imaging and close-ranging sensor data
  • Artificial intelligence tools (e.g. deep-learning based) for machine understanding and interpretation of mobile mapping data
  • Development and performance evaluation of low-cost mobile mapping solutions
  • Development of novel applications in virtual reality, GIS, transportation infrastructure mapping and assessment, including street pavement monitoring, and infrastructure asset monitoring and mapping, emergency response
  • Development and test of cooperative navigation and mapping solutions
  • Cooperation with ICA, IAG, FIG, and other ISPRS WGs on 3D mobile mapping; 3D object reconstruction and city modelling; sensor integration and multiple sensing solutions; and applications in LBS and disaster management.

WG I/3  Terms of Reference

  • Imaging spectroscopy methods research based on pushbroom scanners and snapshot camera systems in the VNIR, SWIR and LWIR spectral ranges
  • Airborne and satellite based multispectral and hyperspectral data processing, including EnMAP, DESIS, PRISMA, ZY1-02D/E and UAVs
  • Thermal remote sensing in the MIR and LWIR ranges, with both broad- and narrow-band sensors: Landsat,Sentinel-3, MODIS / VIIRS, ECOSTRESS, airborne sensors such as AISA Owl
  • Spectral unmixing, denoising, dimension reduction and validation of hyperspectral and multispectral data
  • Feasibility study for the integration of emerging technologies such as smartphone spectrometers
  • Analysis and applications based on multi-temporal and multi-sensor data fusion and multi/hyperspectral data
  • Collaborate with academic societies and industries on applications of multispectral, hyperspectral and thermal sensors systems for Mineral Mapping, crops identification, underwater cultural heritage, landscape archaeology etc.

WG I/4  Terms of Reference

  • Promote the developments and investigations on the state-of-the-art terrestrial, airborne, and spaceborne mapping systems, mainly using LiDAR and laser altimetry sensors
  • Investigate new generation of LiDAR sensors(e.g. low-energy, high-pulse,3D ) and its integrated systems for various sensing and mapping applications
  • Development of  novel multispectral and hyperspectral LiDAR and multi-platform systems (e.g., drone, robot dog, wearable systems) and its outdoor and indoor applications
  • Investigate technologies on integration and fusion of multi-sensor system data (e.g., LiDAR and photogrammetric point clouds)
  • Performance analysis on algorithms and data of various terrestrial, airborne, and spaceborne LiDAR and laser altimeter
  • Liaison with other WGs and ICA, FIG, and IEEE­GRSS for offshore survey, terrain mapping, tree/architecture height measurement, carbon sink, etc.

  • Investigations on recent operational spaceborne SAR constellations including small satellite constellations

ICWG I/IV  Terms of Reference

  • Investigation of simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) techniques for robotics, including semantic and metric SLAM
  • Exploration and evaluation of localization and mapping sensors as well as mapping platforms for indoor and outdoor robotics
  • Addressing challenges in employing robotics for mapping and challenges in map representations for robotics and autonomous vehicle navigation, also in real-time applications
  • Exploit synergies between the indoor mobile mapping and building information modeling (BIM)
  • Addressing the derivation and updating of sustainable urban and building models using robot mapping platforms
